	Full name: Hiske Weijers City of residence: Sydney Country of birth: Holland (the netherlands) 16-11-1962 Study history: After highschool in Holland (where I specialized in fine art and art history) Travelling….. A few years (part time) fine art at tafe in Adelaide. Then modern dance in Amsterdam 1987 Degree in fine art at university of New South Wales (COFA) 2001
	INSPIRATION Basically it is what is around me in my life and inspires me.. most paintings are mixed media or close to it, sometimes on canvas, sometimes it has board under it, or only board, lately I have been getting back into painting with oils as well. My paintings are based on scetches I make while I get around, so travelling is a great inspiration for me, even if I just catch the train or walk around Sydney, where I live now. I have been using the original small scetches to make ‘blocks’, small objects, inspired by old dutch tiles (I saw in Castles, always fascinated me) and children’s blocks with pictues on them. The wood I use is old recycled wood, usually hardwood..

Studio History While I was at Uni I got involved in an artist run gallery/studio space on Regent st., KILO STUDIOS, where I worked and exhibited for 2 1/2 years. We had a group of about twelve artists there, I was involved in running the place. Then I moved to Mekanarky, 5 years ago. I usually managed the gallery space there (with one or two others), curating when we had events, and generally keeping the space we had outside our studios at Mekanarky (hallway) like a gallery. I was there nearly every day, working on my paintings. We had weekly meetings there, it was a good place to work, and we worked togethere well, and everyone was very dedicated, which created a buzzing creative environment. The Studio in Turrella, MEKANARKY, got sold and we had to leave end 2007, we finally left end January 2008, and all found new spaces to work in, since then I have been in a Studio in St Peters 61 Crown St. It is different, not an artist coop like the previous ones, I rent my space and there are a few other artists there as well. It’s big, which suits me.
